From June 24th we are showing works by Pascal Schwendener and Arno Beck, who study at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Peter Doig and Eberhard Havekost. The two artists will move their studio into the gallery rooms from June 17th to 24th and make the creation of the exhibition visible to the public. During this time, visitors are welcome to gain insight into the development and follow the artistic process.

Pascal Schwendener:
The Swiss artist Pascal Schwendener was accepted as one of the youngest students at the Düsseldorf Art Academy at the age of 18 and is now one of Prof. Peter Doig's students. His large-format paintings, in which Pascal Schwendener's background as a graffiti artist is clearly recognizable, soon attracted attention. Intricate, futuristic-looking worlds of forms, biocomputers and fantastic visions of the future determine the motifs of his works. These pictures exert an enormous fascination on the viewer, having the magical effect of immediately captivating him. Enchanted, disturbingly deserted cityscapes of fragile skyscrapers and endless tubes appear like fragments of a dream, credible constructions with perfect internal proportions depict incredible sceneries. The closer you get to his pictures, the more abstract, the more layered, detail after detail emerges from the surface. Like layered layers of earth, rock and stone, Pascal Schwendener layers viewing layers on top of each other, in which the world bundles. Sparingly used luminous blue and orange tones breathe life into his pictures and guide the viewer through the surrealistic universe he has created. Through his studies, the young artist is just as familiar with classical painting as with graffiti and comic art and tries to incorporate all means and techniques of painting into the creation of his works. Pascal Schwendener is rightly considered a shooting star among the students at the academy. Arno Beck: Arno Beck has been studying art at the Düsseldorf Art Academy since 2006 with lecturers Markus Lüpertz, Reinhold Braun and Eberhard Havekost. In his artistic work, Arno Beck constantly reinvents himself. He constantly experiments with new techniques and styles. He uses a variety of techniques and materials. Graphic elements, photo and print meet drawing and ductus-emphasized structures. Spray paint, acrylic, oil, ink, collage and print mix on canvas, paper and wood. Among other things, he uses an optical vocabulary that he has acquired through artistic work in public spaces, in vacant factory halls and industrial wasteland. In 2009, Arno Beck received the 10th Hogan Lovells Art Sponsorship Award for his innovative work on the theme of urbanity and architecture.
