From October 24 to November 21, Stefan Strumbel will be at the Pretty Portal Gallery.
The leitmotif of the artist from Offenburg is "Heimat" (homeland). His materials are on the one hand cultural assets such as cuckoo clocks, Black Forest costumes and garden gnomes and on the other hand everyday objects such as air fresheners and shopping trolleys, which he removes from their original context and re-contextualizes. With work titles such as "What the fuck is Heimat?", "Heimweh" (homesickness) and "Heimatdroge" (homeland drug), Stefan Strumbel addresses the question of "Heimat", which has been heavily discussed recently.
"Heimat" - a genuinely German word, originally refers to the relationship between man and his immediate surroundings. However, the term is dissolving, and this is exactly where Stefan Strumbel's exploration begins.
Coming from graffiti and street art, this still characterizes his artistic expression. He uses spray cans, silk screen printing, creates object art and inspires installations. In his work, tradition meets Pop Art.
Currently, Stefan Strumbel is exhibiting until September 21 in the old fire station in Bahmlingen.
After that, organized by the Freiburg gallery Springmann, he can be seen together with the two Swiss street art artists Dare and Toast in Munich (October 18/19) and Berlin (November 1/2).
In the meantime, Karl Lagerfeld has also discovered Stefan Strumbel.
