From February 13 to March 3, 2009, we will be showing current paintings by the artist la betty under the title "REVERSED".
la betty spans with her works an arc between museum-street-home to street-museum-home. Her artistic exploration of street art (sticker art) is an important experience for her current works. la betty's "Viewpoints" (2007) as stickers were the beginning. They initially served for painting in space and finally became painting in public space. la betty's new works now go one step further. "The experience in public space was important, as it is my source of inspiration for the new paintings. Also, the approach of layering, the collage technique was important for the new, large-format canvases, which were first completely covered or obscured with countless layers of paint and finally largely removed with a high-pressure cleaner..." (la betty 1/2009). la betty's working method of "Reversed Paintings" also has its origin in street art, "Reversed Graffiti". The image is created by "selectively" cleaning, for example, a street, a tunnel wall or street furniture. Some artists create pictures by cleaning walls with rags and brushes. In the simplest case, drawing is also done with fingers in dust-covered panes. la betty brings these street art elements to the canvas. In addition to sponges and brushes, she uses a high-pressure cleaner to remove the paint until the white canvas becomes visible again. This creates abstract color traces that are reminiscent of the once existing painting. Sandra Gabel, born in Germany in 1975, has been working as a freelance artist since graduating with honors in fine arts from Noël Dolla and Pascal Pinaud at the "Villa Arson" art academy in Nice / France. She lives and works in Düsseldorf under the pseudonym "la betty".Vernissage:
