In October, Pretty Portal will be showing works by the urban art artist Laguna. The Spanish native is one of the most prominent protagonists of the Spanish urban art scene. His works, which he creates in public spaces on huge building facades, can be found in many cities in Spain, Brazil and the USA. Last year, Laguna left his mark in Germany for the first time at the Cityleaks Festival in Cologne.
At Pretty Portal, Laguna will be showing new works as well as pictures from recent years, which provide an insight into the process of his artistic development. In his works, Laguna deals with the different ideas people have of themselves and of others. "There is a great discrepancy between what we think of ourselves, what others think of us and what others believe we think of ourselves," says Laguna. These diverging positions result in shifts in reality in relationships between people. Added to this are dreams, surreal moments, which break up the otherwise sometimes monotonous everyday life and make it exciting. "These moments are the most beautiful moments. They put a smile on our faces."His works mix the concrete with the abstract. Laguna's art is idiosyncratic, dreamlike and breaks with habitual ways of seeing. Inner and outer worlds meet in his works and merge in a playful variety of forms and colors into Laguna's surreal imagery. Laguna: "it's not what we see but what we perceive, or vice versa ... or not" His works have been featured in recent years by Juxtapoze, Unurth, Wooster Collective and other art magazines.
