From June 18th, Pretty Portal will be showing new works by ecb Hendrik Beikirch. The presentation focuses on large-format portraits that made a strong impression on visitors to the stroke02 artfair in Munich two weeks ago.
Hendrik Beikirch sketched people on his travels who caught his eye due to their special charisma and their very own expression, oscillating between effort and hope. For example, a pizza baker from Brooklyn/NYC and a factory worker from Ukraine.
The portraits captivate with their reduction to the person and deliberately show them frontally. Formally, this creates an approximation to the representation of modern passport photos optimized for biometrics.
In recent years, Hendrik Beikirch has developed a special technique in which he combines spray paint, acrylic, and water to create a sketchy, watercolor-like aesthetic on canvas. Text layers are incorporated into the canvas varnish, which only become visible when the viewer changes their position in front of the picture due to changing light reflections.
In addition to the canvas works, the original sketches will also be on display.
