After the summer break, Pretty Portal will be showing works by Arno Beck under the title "Vertical Ghetto". Inspired by his travels in Latin America, especially visits to Brazilian favelas, Arno Beck explores architecture as an organic process.
In his pictures, he creates a new spatiality - architectural landscapes that are not planned but grow, even proliferate, are abstruse and not functional. He uses, among other things, an optical vocabulary that he acquired while creating art in public spaces, in vacant factory halls and industrial wasteland.
In his working process, he uses a variety of techniques and materials. Graphic elements, photo and print meet drawing and stroke-emphasized structures. Spray paint, acrylic, oil, ink, collage and print mix on canvas, paper and wood. The exhibition shows three phases of the artist's engagement with the theme. The first step is linocuts of photo compositions, followed by the combination of linocuts with painting, collage, drawing, and finally the dissolution of concrete structures, which for Arno Beck represent the essence and logical consequence of his working process. Arno Beck has been studying art at the Düsseldorf Art Academy since 2006 with lecturers Markus Lüpertz, Reinhold Braun and Eberhard Havekost.
